The Cape and falesa of Rodoni
After assembling all the Albanian independent principats and creating a powerful state in the first half of XV century, Scanderbeg needed new exits to the sea. This became necessary while the Ottoman Empire apart from the pressure to undertake the Albanian territories, was trying to expand into Italy and further beyond in the entire Europe. (That is why Scanderbeg was called “the knight of Christianization”. During this period the main ports were under the ownership of Venedic. Scanderbeg thought that this opportunity could be offered only by Cape of Rodon. This area has always been a strategic point and an important exit to the sea. Scanderbeg built an important castle from the strategic point of view, with particular architectural values, as well.
It is thought that the castle was built in 1463 on the remnants of an existing building. Under the leadership of Scanderbeg, this castle lasted until 1467, while, afterwards, according to Barleti, it was destroyed by the Turkish. After 33 years, the Venedicts became interested again in this castle and rebuilt it after the year 1500. Due to this cultural monument, its short distance to other important monuments, the landscape, and the beauties of the area together with its flora and fauna, this zone has become very popular among tourists and visitors. The castle can be reached by every point of the Commune of Ishmi and by sea, as well.
